Kitchen

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided daily by our team of experienced chefs. Breakfast is served each morning from 8-10:30am in the lodge central breakfast area. Breakfast is continental style and will consistently include items like coffee, cereal, fruit, toast, spreads, etc and will occasionally rotate additional items such as muffins, bagels, granola, specialty spreads and other homemade treats. Lunch is served from 1-2pm daily in the dining area/outdoor kitchen. Lunch is served buffet style and will consistently include a salad bar and will rotate additional specialty salads, soup, chili, sandwiches and dinner leftovers. Residents are encouraged to take lunch when best suits them during the lunch hour. Additionally, residents may pack their lunch to go if they are working off-site or would like to eat elsewhere. We can help provide to-go containers, but residents are also encouraged to bring their own. Dinner is served nightly at 7pm in the dining area/outdoor kitchen. Dinner is the only mandatory activity that all residents and staff must attend. Our amazing team of volunteer chefs and kitchen staff create unique and nutritious meals each night for dinner. Meals in the ACRE kitchen tend to spotlight local produce and whole grains, and are home-made, unprocessed and locally sourced as much as possible.

Each meal will provide vegan and vegetarian options for those of you who have listed that on the dietary restrictions section of the application form. Other allergies and concerns have been taken into account as well, however, we encourage you to talk with our chefs if you have any other serious food concerns. Please let us know right away if you forgot to mention any dietary concerns in your application. Vegan, vegetarian and specially prepared meals are limited to those who indicated their dietary concerns to us in advance of the session.

Limited snacks will be available throughout the day in the breakfast area of the lodge (fruit, pretzels, granola bars, etc). If you find that you are hungry between meals or have particular diet needs, we encourage you to stock up on your own snacks. The lodge breakfast area and some rooms have communal refrigerators, so you can store food and drinks for yourselves. There are nearby grocery stores and if you find that you need to pick something up but don’t have a car, you can talk to us about catching a ride when we go into town, which will happen rather frequently. We encourage you to bring your own tupperware or mess kit, especially if you have interest in taking your lunch to go.

Please keep in mind that our volunteer kitchen staff are cooking for 60+ people each day. We try our best to accommodate all kinds of diets. Your patience and understanding is appreciated.
