Arrival and Departure

ARRIVALS

ACRE is a 4 hour drive from Chicago. The nearest airport and long distance bus stops are in Madison, Wisconsin which is a 2 hour drive from ACRE.

Our goal is to have all residents arrive before 5pm on the 1st day of their session.

  • Driving
    • Many people drive to the residency from Chicago. We ask that residents who are driving aim to arrive between 12pm and 3pm on the first day of their session.
  • We will be sending out an email in early May to each session to help coordinate ride sharing.  Please be prepared to respond to that email and let each other know if you have space in your car or if you are looking for a ride.
  • Bus or Plane
    • If you are unable to get into a carpool or drive directly to the farm and must take a bus or plane (there is no train station), we will arrange to pick you up in Madison at a pre-designated shuttle time
  • If you are flying or taking a bus please plan to arrive in Madison before 2pm on the first day of your session.
    • We will arrange the times of the shuttle pick-ups based on common arrival times.
    • We will let you know the night before you arrive when and who to expect to pick you up.
  • As soon as you have booked your flight or bus let us know your arrival times and locations
  • Breakfast and lunch will not be provided on the first day, though snacks will be available.

DEPARTURES

  • On the last day of your session, residents are expected to clean up their rooms and workspaces and exit by 2pm
    • All residents are expected to fully clean their rooms and sanitize all surfaces with provided cleaning supplies. We ask that you follow the mantra “leave it better than you found it.”
  • Lunch and Dinner will not be provided that day and staff will not be working the facilities.
  • A shuttle will be available for those who need to catch a plane or bus in Madison. It is also important that you inform us of your departure information so that we can coordinate bringing you back to Madison.
  • We ask that you schedule your return flight or bus in Madison for between 11am-5pm if possible.
  • Staff will help with travel arrangements in the days leading up to the final day of the session, including help sorting out carpool arrangements and scheduling the shuttle to Madison.

We ask that residents arrive between 11am-4pm on the first day of their session.

Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by one of our Alumni Volunteer Staff members who will be your guide and Orientation Leader for the day. They will help you find your room, give you a tour of the property, and lead a small group orientation in the afternoon.

Our goal is to have all residents arrive before 5pm on the 1st day of their session.

On the last day of your session, residents are expected to clean up their rooms and work-spaces and exit by 2pm. Lunch and Dinner will not be provided that day and staff will not be working the facilities. A shuttle will be available for those who need to catch a plane or bus in Madison. Staff will help with travel arrangements in the days leading up to the final day of the session, including help sorting out car pool arrangements and scheduling the shuttle to Madison.

Please visit the Travel page for more information on how to get to and from ACRE.

SHOW & TELL

You will receive an email requesting that you send us one image for the resident “show and tell” which happens on the second night after dinner. Please make sure to email your image to info@acreresidency.org and label your file “your name_show and tell_your session” in advance of your arrival so that we can be prepared. The “show and tell” is an opportunity to introduce yourself to the ACRE community that you will be spending two weeks with. You will have 1-2 minutes to talk about yourself and what you plan to do at ACRE and one image to show. You can choose to show art work or any image that may represent what you are interested in working on while at the residency.

For more information please email info@acreresidency.org
